Challenges faced by children in this generation

Growing up to be a ‘normal’ child can be challenging. In fact, this generation has a lot to wrestle with
Is it the type of cartoons they watch that we want to talk about
Or the kind of technology they are exposed to at a very tender age
Media, both traditional and digital is doing more harm than good
Music has no more lyrics
Drama/movie does not speak language that is different  from harm/danger
Abuse, corruption, violence, drug, sex, homosexuality…are not just words but reality in this day and age
Negativity spread around everywhere, every time, everyday

Sometimes I wonder how to secure these children’s future because they have so many things competing with their attention daily
They have so many things influencing their decisions hourly
They have so many things contributing to their formation of habits per second
They have so many things affecting their physical/mental development

Do not blame them for not being our definition of a normal child because there is nothing absolutely normal in this generation any more
Do not blame them for getting it wrong because there is nothing defining or separating right from wrong any longer

As long as they will be relating with other people and the environment and not living in isolation, the battle continues

Even as parents, we do not help them to overcome the many challenges they face as we are also being influenced by our environment. We end up contributing to these challenges unconsciously

We set standards that is as high as the tallest mountain for our breast sucking child
We compare them with others and somehow demoralise their potential
We are unavoidably absent because we want to provide for the family
We delegate our roles and responsibilities to nannies/teachers/parents/siblings or any available personnel
Our expectation is far from our action

My encouragement is to be equipped (knowledgeable) and intentional (committed and determined) to raise leaders, heroes, and balanced children despite these challenges.

Today, I Oluwaseyi Fadairo pledge to finish strong as a parent against all odds (God help me). Do you?
