What do I do when I behave like a child?

Mum: Semilore, I am enrolling you into a music school, I need you to take advantage of it.

Semilore: No mum, I am fine without music for now. I can’t even master the art of playing a recorder let alone other complicated instruments. Music will take the whole of my time. Music involves commitment and regular practice, it is expensive…bla bla bla.

I was speechless as he kept blabbing…I could see his fear even though he kept a bold straight face. I could hear his worries  even when he was not audible. In summary he was telling me indirectly his final answer.

In my inner ears I could hear my beloved son saying: “Mum,
Don’t waste your money
I don’t have time
I don’t believe in myself anymore
Can’t you see that I am a failure – I have failed
I am not ready to start again
I am comfortable where I am
Just let me be
I don’t want to disappoint you anymore
…”

My eyes were filled with tears and I believed he would be wondering what’s up with mum with my simple reply. I read in his eyes, ‘is saying NO difficult to understand by adults?’

I drew him close enough to hug and cuddle him and I whispered to his right  ear,  ‘I am just like you.’

It is amazing how much we have in common with our children. We say no to something (idea, dreams, visions) before we even give it a chance.
Our morale gets lowered and eventually covered up because we had failed once, twice or even constantly. Someone somewhere somehow is already timid because today is the 1st day in March….

Hmmmmm, what would you do if Semilore was to be your child?
Spank?
Tongue-lash?
Motivate?
Do it to yourself now!
