The Two Versions of Every Intentional Parent

I  have two versions of me, and my children are allowed to choose the version they want at different times. My students have the same privilege.

Their choices are simple: Mrs Fadairo or Mum (Eniola’s Mum).

I am sure you are wondering what the difference is. But I can assure you that if you read this article to the end, you will be able to tell the difference. 😉

“Squeezing the best out of our children isn’t always a sweet parent-child experience. Yet the results leave a delightful taste that gladdens both hearts.” Oluwaseyi Fadairo

Every loving parent desires the very best for their children. Yet bringing out that best rarely comes through comfort alone.

Discipline.

Correction.

Training.

Boundaries.

Difficult conversations.

These moments are not always sweet for either the parent or the child. They may be resisted today, misunderstood tomorrow, and even questioned for a season.

This is where Mrs Fadairo often takes over. Mrs Fadairo is the version that insists on standards, teaches responsibility, corrects wrong attitudes, and refuses to lower expectations. She is not always the most popular version in the moment, but she understands that parenting is not merely about keeping children happy—it is about preparing them for life.

Mum, on the other hand, is warm, comforting, playful, and full of affection. She listens, laughs, celebrates victories, and provides a safe place for her children to return to.

The truth is that our children need both versions. They need the warmth of Mum and the wisdom of Mrs Fadairo. They need love and limits. They need comfort and correction. They need acceptance and accountability.

This is because intentional parenting has never been about winning the moment; it is about winning the future.

No wonder the Bible reminds us that “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11

Every correction planted in love is a seed for character. Every godly boundary is a fence that protects purpose. Every intentional sacrifice is an investment in your child’s future.

As parents, we must not confuse temporary discomfort with permanent damage. Often, the very moments our children resist are the moments God uses to shape them.

Discipline, correction, and training are not always sweet moments between parents and children, but they produce a harvest that gladdens both hearts.

Intentional parenting may be difficult in the moment, but it yields lasting fruit for generations.

And if you ask my children which version they prefer, I suspect the answer changes from time to time. But one day, they will appreciate that both Mrs Fadairo and Mum were working together to give them the very best.
