Thou shall ALWAYS run with the baton!

Just like in a relay race, Parents are the first to start off the first leg of the ‘life race’ in their children’s lives and then, they pass the baton (of influence/impact) from one group to the other: the teachers, the media, support system, peers etc.

The difference between the standard relay race and this life relay race is that, parents don’t just give the baton to the next influencer and look away.  As the race continues, the parents are right beside whoever is holding the baton to ensure that he/she is on the right track, running at the right pace and is in the right spirit to avoid being penalised or disqualified.

In the life relay race, having the fastest runner or runners on the team doesn’t necessarily translate to winning the race. Having the most experienced or the most dedicated runners doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get to win the race. Being the ‘reigning champions’ as a team doesn’t necessarily translate to an automatic win either.

None of these conditions will ensure that you win the race unless the baton is safely passed in each and every exchange zone, from one hand to the next, and then eventually carried across the “finish line” with you being on the final leg of the race.

One of the laws of Intentional Parenting is ‘Thou shall ALWAYS run with the baton’.

Don’t get too busy, distracted or overwhelmed that you then drop the baton when you pass it on to the next athlete.

I understand that you have successfully passed it on HOWEVER, you must run with the next athlete until the race is over.

May we all finish well and strong in Jesus Name.

  1. This is deep and revealing too.

The role of the parent can never be abdicated to another.

The good Lord will help us. Amen
