The purpose driven child

I know you have read a lot about ‘purpose driven’.
In fact, when the topic came up as I was about to write, I shoved it aside.
Purpose driven again?!
That was my exact reaction.
However, I had a deep thought and continued.

Children are like raw materials.
Their end products could produce so many useful items for themselves and the community at large.
Nevertheless, without proper refining, polishing, nurturing, they either remain raw or their products become harmful to the society.

Who is responsible for this task? The bulk of the responsibility falls on the parent.

How can parents achieve this? By being Intentional.
Discover your child’s purpose by partnering with the Creator.
Understand your child’s weaknesses and strengths
Develop an interest in what they love
Guide their paths in fulfilling purpose.

Many a times, we raise our children to fulfil our ambitions. We raise them to complete our world. We raise them to ‘torture’ our enemies.  Myles Monroe said ‘If the purpose of a thing is unknown, abuse is inevitable’. This includes parenting. Let me ask you a few questions,  write down your answers somewhere. These will guide you in raising a purpose driven child.

Why are you raising that child?
Why have you chosen your style of discipline?
Why have you introduced he or she to that club?
Why do you want him to follow your religion?
Why do you want her to go to that school?
Why do you want him to study that course?
What kind of example are you showing her?

Purpose driven children don’t just live to exist but live to make an impact.
Purpose driven children don’t just add up to the numbers,  they outshine their peers.
Purpose driven children don’t do things to ‘while away time’, they spend each second judiciously to fulfill their life assignments.

They may play however, they also plan
They may mistakes however they understand it is part of the journey to success.
They get tired however, they look up to the end and keep pushing because they know their purpose in life.

How purposeful are you as parents about raising a purpose driven child?
